Coastal Zing captures the dynamic interplay of colour and energy along a vibrant coastal scene, transforming memory into a rhythmically charged abstract composition. The layered oil pastel, charcoal and ink surface records the movement of hand and eye, where bold marks and luminous tones trace the shifting light and atmosphere of the shoreline.
Rather than simply depict a seaside memory, this work channels the sensory essence of place — the warmth of sunlit air, the movement of breeze and the changing rhythms of experience. Compositional tension emerges through repeated line and layered tone, with contrasting colours and shifting textures guiding the eye across the surface.
Colour here is both expressive and structural: warm ochres and cool blues work together across the paper, anchoring the piece while allowing the energetic marks to breathe. Each layer builds texture and depth, rewarding extended viewing and revealing a subtle balance of spontaneity and control.
This original oil pastel stands as a work of presence, meant to be experienced over time, revealing its rhythm, energy and coastal resonance with each viewing.
Created on Arches 300 gsm paper, the sheet was secured at each corner throughout the process. The composition extends close to the edges, so mat or float framing is recommended to preserve the integrity of the work.
