The Delight of Light forms part of an ongoing practice exploring light, surface and colour as structural rather than representational forces. Built through repeated layers of oil paint over initial charcoal gestures, the surface is disrupted and reasserted until a subtle balance of luminosity, depth and movement is achieved.
Marks accumulate across the field without hierarchy. Direction, pressure and layering operate as compositional tools, allowing light and colour to emerge organically. The work resists immediate resolution; relationships between tones and surface continue to shift as the eye moves across the composition.
Colour is treated materially rather than symbolically. Warm ochres, deep blues and soft greys establish weight, contrast and rhythm, while scraped, overpainted and layered areas retain evidence of sustained decision-making. The painting reads as a record of prolonged engagement with surface, light and atmosphere rather than a fixed image.
The piece sits between observation and abstraction, insisting on physical presence and temporal duration. It is intended to reward attentive viewing, offering collectors a considered encounter with the interplay of light, colour and surface that unfolds gradually over time.
Painted on Arches Huile 300 gsm paper (56 × 76 cm), the sheet was secured at each corner throughout creation. The composition extends close to the edges, so mat or float framing is recommended to preserve the integrity of the work. Signed and dated on the reverse, it is supplied with a certificate of authenticity and ready to display.
