About oil painting on aluminium
Oil painting on aluminium, or another prepared metal surface, is a very different experience from painting on traditional canvas. The smooth but slightly toothed surface allows the brushstroke to remain crisp and visible, giving the paint a distinctive quality and allowing traces of the artist's action to remain in the finished work.
I have increasingly explored aluminium as a surface for my oil paintings, particularly for works inspired by the changing light, atmosphere and movement of the sea.
